Wonderful winter items currently at their peak, with a few early spring items starting to sneak onto our buyer’s top quality list!

CALIFORNIA CITRUS- We’re enjoying a fantastic selection of citrus from the California coast. Meyer lemons, kumquats, blood oranges, and tangerines are all bursting with flavor. California-grown navel oranges are also excellent, with the Cara Cara variety standing out—its pink-tinged flesh offers subtle berry notes.

MEXICAN ASPARAGUS- Asparagus from Mexico is experiencing its peak season, particularly from the Caborca region in Sonora. Similar to our local season, the best harvest lasts about two months. Prices are great, flavors are excellent, and the product is super fresh.

GREEN GARLIC- Knoll Farms’ green garlic and stinging nettles are making it feel like spring is just around the corner. Green garlic is in strong supply. Coming soon: red and white spring onions, as well as spring shallots.

COASTAL ARTICHOKE- Artichoke season has begun on the coast! We have beautiful medium and large sizes available, with tight heirloom varieties expected to continue for the next few months.

ROOT VEGGIES- Not so fast, spring—we still have some fantastic winter vegetables in stock! Turnips, rutabagas, and parsnips are all exceptionally sweet right now. Carrots of all varieties are also excellent.

BLOOMSDALE SPINACH- Bloomsdale spinach and braising mixes are sautéing beautifully, bringing vibrant local flavor and color. Both are sourced from Riverdog and Coke Farms. Baby red gem and green gem lettuces are also in peak condition, available in both conventional and organic options.

CUCUMBERS- Cucumber production is booming in Mexico. English and American cucumbers are plentiful and well-priced for the next few weeks, with fresh flavor. Persian cucumbers are improving weekly, and we expect supply to stabilize soon.

LOCAL LEEK- Locally sourced leeks from Terra Firma Farm will be our go-to for the next few weeks. After being covered in rain and mud, the sunshine has allowed for a strong comeback, and we’re seeing excellent King Richard variety leeks.

WILD FORAGED MUSHROOM- The best option right now is black trumpet mushrooms, back in stock after a short hiatus. Yellowfoot mushrooms are also available with good quality from Oregon. Hedgehogs are nearing the end of their season, and local chanterelles are finished—we now wait for early summer European harvests.

ITEMS TO WATCH!!

  • BANANAS: Import consistency has been a challenge, making it tricky to find the right color stages. We’re working daily to ensure quality product for our customers.
  • POMEGRANATES: The California season has officially ended. Some fruit is available from Costa Rica, but quality is subpar and pricing is extremely high.
