Autumn is a delightful time for fruits and vegetables! Top crops of this season include apples, pears, figs, pumpkins, potatoes, and winter squash.

While most varieties of apples are available all year, they are best from late August to November. Any variety will undoubtedly have a crisp, juicy bite. Early fall varieties include Honey Crisp and Golden Delicious with Fuji, Red Delicious, and Granny Smith only getting better in taste being harvested a bit later in the season.

Autumn is also a great time for pears. Many varieties will continue to be available well into the winter! Whether you choose to poach, bake, or simply slice your pears, you are guaranteed to have a sweet, fragrant pear flavor radiate your dish.

Figs are another great crop of this season. While they have a second season in summer, the beginning of fall is the primary growing period for figs. Their beautiful appearance and unique texture add great dimension to any recipe.

We wouldn’t be able to mention fall vegetables without naming pumpkins! The popular fall squash has a small window of availability, usually limited to the month of October. Little compares to the taste of fresh pumpkin in many fall dishes, so don’t miss out!

Autumn is also the best time of year to enjoy potatoes. While also available all year, fall is when potatoes are harvested. Potatoes don’t get much fresher than this time of year!

Finally, winter squash must be mentioned. Varieties such as acorn, butternut, and spaghetti add such warmth to dishes that can only be apart of fall. All of these seasonal items are available at C & L. We hope you enjoy!
