Valencia oranges have just about finished up for the year, but the transition to the fall/ winter navel variety has not been so smooth. The navel oranges are not quite ready to harvest, and Valencia supply is little to nothing. With demand unchanged, what supply is available gets driven up in price. The hurricane in the Florida area a few weeks back damaged many of the oranges coming out of this region as well, limiting supply further. Our suppliers are forecasting navels to be harvested mid- late October, and even then to expect a lighter supply than in past years. Anticipate this coming year to be a hard season for oranges.
